The Nictus Group of Companies was founded in 1945 and has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) since 1969. The company's main business operations were based in South West Africa. The main reason for the listing was to build equity to expand its operations into Southern Africa.

Because of various factors during the 1970's and 1980's, (mainly the war), it was very difficult to gain momentum with the listing. The main reason for this was a lack of business confidence in the area. During the 80's, the Nictus Group slowly expanded into the Republic of South Africa to substantiate the listing, after it had raised capital on the JSE. During the 90's, (when confidence returned), the Nictus Group was instrumental in establishing a Stock Exchange in Namibia (NSX) and Nictus was the first listed company on that stock exchange. Today the Nictus Group remains with its primary listing on the JSE and a secondary listing on the NSX.

In 1996, Nico Tromp (MD of the Nictus Group), entered into a joint venture with the founder members of Corporate Guarantee, to float a short-term insurance company in Namibia, named Corporate Guarantee. This merger became possible due to the emerging financial market in Namibia and because both parties realized the benefits Corporate Guarantee would enjoy by becoming part of a listed entity. Further to this Corporate Guarantee gained the experience and expertise of the management and support structure of the Nictus Group.

Corporate Guarantee was formed in January 1996 and incorporated in Namibia under the name Corporate Guarantee and Insurance Company of Namibia Limited. Corporate Guarantee is registered with the Registrar of Financial Institutions in Namibia to conduct short term insurance business. The company operates in a niche market in the short-term insurance industry providing unique solutions to risk management. Due to premium growth, it became necessary for Corporate Guarantee to increase its issued capital to, meet solvency requirements under the Short-term Insurance Act.

In May 2000, the company successfully launched a private placing of 15 million ordinary shares of 50 cents each at an issue price of 100 cents per share. The issue was fully subscribed thus increasing its issued capital from N$5 million to N$20 million. The advantage that this increase in capital holds for policyholders is that all Corporate Guarantee policies are backed by share capital in excess of N$20 million.

Nictus Limited acquired the entire share capital of Corporate Guarantee limited with effect from 1 April 2001. The directors of Nictus refocused the company and expanded its operations to Southern Africa through selected acquisitions in similar/related areas of business activities.

During 2012 Nictus Limited was unbundled and on 21 September 2012 Nictus Holdings Limited, the company holding entity, was primary listed on the Namibia Stock Exchange (NSX).
